Robert Morris Pollok Jr.

Robert “Bob” Morris Pollok Jr. passed away suddenly from a tragic accident on Monday, February 5, 2018 working on his beloved family farm on Clearview Drive. Bob was born on February 18, 1944 in Danville, VA. He was the son of Robert Morris and Elizabeth Pollok. Bob graduated from Whitmell School in 1962 and graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s of Science in 1966. A few years later he obtained his Masters Degree from Virginia Tech. He worked as an agriculture education and shop teacher at Dan River High School and later at Tunstall High School for 34 years. Many of his students and colleagues knew him as “Barney”. He made a strong impact on the agricultural community and its students over his years of teaching. After he retired from the school system, he continued farming and growing the family business, Hill View Farms with his wife and son. He also was active in numerous farm organizations including the Callands Young Farmers. Bob married the love of his life, Billie, on July 1, 1967. They were wed for 48 years before Billie passed away in October 2015. Bob and Billie were members of St. John’s Methodist Church for over 45 years where he was a member of St. John’s Fisherman’s Club. Bob was predeceased by his wife Billie, his parents, and his sister Mary Helen Collins. He is survived by his son Robert William Pollok and wife, Wendy. He has two granddaughters, Megan Pollok and Bay Harville and her husband, Mike. He also has two nieces, Carrie Touart (Patrick) and Mary Ryland Johnson (Brian). Bob was passionate about his love for the land. Farming was his vocation and his recreation. He was a hard-working, gentle, and caring man. Bob could rarely be found where he wasn’t in the field or in his workshop. He was always creating with his hands, often times found wood carving wherever he might be. Bob was in perfect health and enjoyed life until his last breath. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 11, at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home Westover at 1:00 p.m. The celebration of life will follow at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors at the 1324 Clearview Dr. residence from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Mt. Cross and Tunstall Volunteer Fire Departments. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Pollok family.
