Rodney "Pa" Dodd Raines Sr.

Rodney Dodd Raines (“Pa”) passed away on September 10, 2026, surrounded by the family he spent his life loving, guiding, and caring for. Rodney was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, but above all, he was a man of God. His faith was evident in the way he lived, loved, served, and gave to others. He deeply loved his church and church family, faithfully serving as a deacon for many years and knowing nearly every corner of the building. He was especially excited for the new church currently being built and leaves behind pieces of his handiwork, including the sign he built outside; a lasting reminder of the faith and service he gave so freely. Rodney was married to his beloved wife, Pam Raines, whom he deeply loved, cherished, and adored. Together, they built a life and family that meant everything to him. He was a devoted father to Rodney Raines II (Olivia), Liza Snead (Eric), Kristen Allen (Thomas), and Lisa Austin (James). He was a proud and deeply involved grandfather to Rod Raines III, Tristen Raines, Faith Pope (Jacob), Parker Allen, Gabe Snead, Grayson Snead (Luke), and Cooper Austin; and a cherished great-grandfather to Maddox, Noel, Abraham, Mamie, and Winslow. Rodney is also survived by his siblings, Kent Raines (Helen), Stephen Raines (Bonnie), and Janet Taff (Bennett). He was preceded in death by his father, Aaron Raines; his mother, Anna Raines; and his grandson, Parker Allen. Family was not simply a part of Rodney’s life; it was his life. He loved them fiercely, made it his mission to be part of their lives, celebrated their joys, carried their burdens, and always showed up when needed. His loyalty was unwavering. Rodney was one of the hardest-working and most capable men you could ever meet. A true jack of all trades, there was nothing he couldn’t build, repair, figure out, or improve. He loved tinkering, and his intelligence, resourcefulness, and work ethic were admired by everyone who knew him. He was happy, funny, and full of life. He loved to joke and bring light into a room. Even through difficult times, he had a remarkable ability to pick himself and everyone around him back up. He met life with strength, gratitude, and humor. Rodney loved his country and the freedom it represented, carrying that patriotism proudly throughout his life. His generosity was one of his greatest qualities. He freely gave his time, knowledge, abilities, resources, and most of all, himself. If someone needed help, Rodney was the one to show up in a minute. Rodney leaves behind a legacy in his family, his faith, the lessons he taught, the things his strong hands built, and the countless memories and laughter shared with those fortunate enough to know him. His family and friends will forever miss his wisdom, strength, helping hands, and the comfort of simply knowing he was there. He was truly one of a kind. A memorial service to honor Rodney’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel with Reverend Myron Bruce officiating and Mr. Jacob Pope speaking. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, 1810 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540. His was a life well lived, a family well loved, and a faith faithfully kept.
