Wanda "Nanny" Hopkins

Wanda Wood “Nanny” Hopkins, 86, of 7 London Drive, Danville, Virginia went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at her residence after a nine month decline in health. Nanny was born on March 9, 1939 in Fieldale, Virginia to the late Johnnie Beamer Wood and Lottie Merle Clifton Wood. She spent most of her life in Danville and worked for Dan River Mills, Tultex, and National Textile. After her retirement, she worked in the cafeteria at Schoolfield Elementary School. Nanny was a dedicated member of Bannister Springs Primitive Baptist Church. She was a woman of deep faith and leaves behind a great legacy of love for the Lord. On April 9, 1977, Nanny married Raymond Alvin “Papa” Hopkins, who preceded her in death on September 27, 2016. Nanny is survived by her four children, Ronald Pegram (Thelma), Teresa Bobzin (Vince), Brian Pegram (Anita), and Rhonda McFalls (Brian); eight grandchildren, Vincent, Jason, Taylor, Brittany, Lindsey, Lauren, Alyssa, and Dylan; three great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Parker, and Amelia; two brothers, Ray Wood (Cheryl) and Michael Wood (Veda); a special caretaker, Gerald Harbour (Lisa); and many special nieces, nephews, and loved ones. In addition to her husband, Nanny was predeceased by a grandson, Dustin, and a sister, Linda Harbour Hopkins. Funeral services for Nanny will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, February 23, 2026 at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Pastor Troy Simpson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:30 PM to 6:45 PM at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends at the residence, between the hours of 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM daily. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at the Plasters Family Cemetery in Vesta, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Plasters Family Cemetery Fund, c/o Gerald Harbour, 65 Quail Oaks Road, Martinsville, VA 24112, or to the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association, 223 Riverview Drive, Suite J, Danville, VA 24541.
